Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (GYM)

The Active IQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing (GYM) is at level 2 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework. It also provides access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2.

Target Learners

Aimed for adults at  Fitness First Education, aged 16 and above, wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as fitness personal trainers and instructors.

Noting that adults from 16 to 18 years of age may need to be supervised in the workplace once they pass the qualification courses.

Aim

Aimed to train beginners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan, and deliver safe and effective training courses within the Fitness First health club environment.

Objectives

  • To develop a learner’s knowledge of anatomy and physiology and how it relates to exercise and fitness.
  • To develop a learner’s ability to plan and deliver safe and effective training courses.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge to develop excellent customer service and the personal qualities required by the fitness industry.
  • To provide learners with an awareness of health and safety in an exercise and fitness environment.
  • To provide learners with the opportunity to progress in our qualification courses.

Progression

This qualification course provides 

  •  A Level 3 qualification course in Personal Training for learners who wish to further their knowledge and skills and become personal trainers working with our members.
  • Learners may also broaden their knowledge and skills by progressing to our Level 2 qualification course to become an instructor for Circuits, Exercise to Music, and Aqua.

Mandatory Units

This qualification course comprises of 6 mandatory units

Successful achievement of all six units must be achieved for the full qualification course to be approved.

Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training

The Active IQ Certificate in Personal Training is at level 3 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework. It also provides access to The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 3.

Entry Requirements

A suitable Level 2 qualification course certification.

The course requires physical exertion and individual participation; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading, and writing) and application of number involved, and learners should have basic skills in communication and application of number pitched at levels 3 and 2, respectively.

Target Learners

Gym and health club instructors wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as personal trainers.

Individuals who already passed an instructor fitness certification, wishing to become self-employed, running their own personal training business.

Aim

To develop learners with existing knowledge in coaching, who would like to build their skills to pursue a career in personal training.

Objectives

  • To provide learners with the knowledge of anatomy and physiology, functional kinesiology, and concepts and components of fitness.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to successfully gather and analyze client information using the most accepted techniques.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to assess a client’s current health and fitness status.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan and conduct a physical activity session, within a variety of environments using multiple resources.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to perform a client consultation using the most accepted methods and to provide strategies for successful behavior change.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to communicate effectively to build successful relationships with their clients and other health care professionals.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge to be able to prepare for employment or to set up in business on a self-employed basis.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to manage, evaluate, and improve their performance.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge to be able to offer nutritional advice for physical activity based on clients’ needs.

Progression

This qualification course provides 

  • Learners may also progress onto qualification courses in related sectors, like Sports Massage, where they will be provided with the knowledge and skills to practice sports massage alongside personal training in the health club environment or own business.
  • Alternatively, learners may broaden their knowledge and skills by progressing onto additional qualification courses in branches of the Level 3 Standards, such as Exercise Referral and Leisure Management.

Mandatory Units

Learners who have achieved a Level 2 Fitness Instructor certification or an NQF Active IQ Level 2 Fitness Instructor certification (500/1803/6) or equivalent (Skills Active have agreed on the exemption for these specific NQF qualifications) will have already achieved the following three units at Level 2.

Learners who hold a Level 2 qualification in coaching, which is not an agreed equivalent/ exemption to the three units detailed above, may require further guidance and support to ensure the correct learning pathway is selected to achieve the required units. For those who need to complete the above units, an additional digital Learner Achievement Portfolio (L.A.P.) is available from Active IQ.

Personal Training

Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training
